The New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) Program, established by Congress in 2000, was created to increase investments into operating businesses and real estate projects located in low-income communities. Tax credit authority is allocated by the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund (CDFI Fund) which is under the United States Department of the Treasury.
